Caspar 24 August 2019

Happy Birthday, Rochelle

Rochelle celebrated her 74th natal day today ...or, rather, we celebrated HER. For me, pretty much the whole day was spent in the kitchen (and at the computer devising the card below) doing what she mostly does every day. A beautiful Ford Ranch dry aged steak prepared sous vide – with steak or chops, that means sear first briefly in the hottest pan you can manage, then into the sous vide for an amount of time defined by the doneness desired, the freshness of the meat, and its thickness, our favorite being 56°C for 30 minutes, then seared briefly again, and rested under foil – served with home-made potato chips and mushroom gravy: Yum!

Followed by affogato at Sienna's, lovingly prepared by Sienna and Dana.

My card, below, has images from events from the last 365 days, mostly featuring two visits from sis-in-law Sharon and the granchirrun Mia and Zoe . . . and of course Pi the cat, a magnificent Caspar sunset, the feller working on the two over-old pine trees (planted by me 50 years ago), and various views of Rochelle walking winter beaches and the maze in Bolinas. A good year, don't you think, Love of my life?

Sienna had already proffered a carb and a beautiful bouquet of the flowers that are thriving locally right now – especially the Naked Ladies!

Later, a nice walk on the Headlands, an abundant bunch of Wild Blackberries – this is the only time of year we don't hate the invasive Himalayas! – a gorgeous salad, and a quiet evening at home.

Only two more days before we're away!
