Southern California index
In early May, close enough to departure to qualify as a "visit to a foreign country," Michael took a trip to Southern California, light-heartedly called "inferior California" by partisan northern Californians still resentful that the southern half of the state fuels its growth, not to mention its golf courses and swimming pools, with water that should be producing food and habitat in the north.
Michael visited with friends in Beaumont, taught at Mount San Jacinto Community College, and then explored the southernmost remnant of the Sierras in Idylwild. Here, to show the diversity of "the Nation of California" -- the planet's eleventh largest economic unit -- are some pictures taken while debugging our new travel camera.
