Home: Hard to Leave

So little time, so many changes!

The pre-departure countdown is ticking in the background, and the list of Undones still seems endless, but we know that Thursday morning will find us bidding cats and dog Goodbye and heading north on the Next Adventure.

Progress on the homestead has been solid this Spring and Summer. We are finally in the "finish the details" mode, something I have long anticipated. Starting with the new purple slate entryway and, less obvious but more important, the propane-assisted solar water heater, the major unfinished bits are almost gone, and we're down to finish carpentry.

Time for a trip!

The Big Seven Zero

Last week, 16 of my Caspar family celebrated my 70th birthday with us. We were reminded how blessed we are with friends where we live.

This trip is for time with scattered family – a wedding for Vanessa (Rochelle's niece) will gather the Elkan clan to Portland, Wisconsin for Allicia (Michael's third daughter) and her children Devan and Stella (Michael's unmet granddaughter), then Chico for (Rochelle's son) Chad's family. Something over 5,000 miles in something like 21 days. You can watch our progress right here.
